The Student visa (subclass 500) lets you live in Australia and study full-time in a course registered on CRICOS. It is granted in line with your enrolment — generally for up to 5 years — and you can include eligible family members in your application.

  • Be enrolled in a course registered on CRICOS and hold a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
  • Meet the Genuine Student Requirement (GSR) — show you are genuinely coming to study.
  • Meet the English language requirement for your course.
  • Show financial capacity to cover tuition, living costs and travel — use our Student Visa Funds Calculator to estimate what you may need.
  • Hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

Working while you study

  • Work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session.
  • Work unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
  • Your dependent partner may also be granted limited work rights.
